My Story

Hilary Rice is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the worlds of textile art, weaving, and surface design. With a lifelong passion for craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for slow, intentional creation, she transforms raw materials into one-of-a-kind pieces that embody movement, light, and emotional depth.

Rice’s artistic practice is rooted in transformation. Rather than relying on commercially produced materials, she hand-dyes natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silk, creating custom palettes and textures that make each piece unique. Her meticulous process often incorporates handspun yarns and traditional techniques, emphasizing the value of time and thoughtful craftsmanship. She approaches ceramics with the same dedication she brings to her textile design work, embracing the tactile nature of clay to craft pieces that radiate warmth and vitality.

Her work is profoundly influenced by spirituality and a desire to explore the unseen connections that unite nature, humanity, and the divine. She views simple objects as symbols—trees become dynamic flows of energy, while landscapes express the interplay of colour and light. Through her creations, Rice invites viewers into a meditative experience, one that reflects the beauty of being fully present in the creative journey.

With years of experience in the arts, Rice continues to evolve her practice, blending tradition with innovation. Her ceramics are more than functional objects—they are works of art that bring joy, energy, and a touch of the extraordinary to everyday life.
