John’s work reflects a deep appreciation for classical traditions and the enduring influence of the Old Masters. Through both landscape and portrait painting, John seeks to create images that transport viewers beyond the present moment—inviting imagination, memory, and a sense of timeless beauty.

John studied extensively between 1997 and 2007 at Michael John Angel Studios and the Academy of Realist Art, where his formal training strengthened his admiration for 19th- and early 20th-century painters. This foundation continues to inform his approach, combining careful observation with a poetic sensibility rooted in realism.

John continues to build on this foundation by studying the works and methods of living masters, including Scott Christensen, Don Demers, Kathleen Hudson and Thomas Jefferson Kitts to name a few.

His work has been exhibited widely in juried shows and gallery exhibitions across Canada and internationally. He has participated in the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (1988–2022), West Toronto Artists Studio Tours (1998, 2019, 2022–2025), Art Tour Collective exhibitions (2015–2025), Junction Arts Festival, Toronto Art Expo, Mtl en Arts, and Artfest Toronto Distillery. Gallery exhibitions include the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, Earlscourt Gallery (Hamilton), Prisma Gallery (Toronto), Evicta Gallery (Toronto), and the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery (Toronto). His work was also included in Recent Works on Paper from Florentine Academies in New York, Rhode Island, and Rome (2003–2004).

John’s work has received notable recognition, including nomination to the 2003 Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy; finalist in the Art Renewal Center Salon Competition (2007); and Honourable Mention in The Artist’s Magazine Annual Competition (2007).

In his landscape paintings, Lynch aims to transport viewers to another place and time—evoking memory, imagination, and a sense of fantasy and beauty. In portraiture, he strives to capture the unique character of his subjects at a specific moment.
