Raised between the vibrant streets of Montreal and the quiet beauty of eastern Ontario, Julie Lower grew up where cityscapes met rolling farmland and hardwood forests. Her deep connection to the natural world was nurtured early by her Irish grandmothers—wise women who believed that healing, wonder, and a sense of magic could be found in the forest for those who take the time to look, listen, and truly see.

Julie’s journey has taken her through many landscapes, each with its own rhythm and mystery. Winters spent in Arizona revealed a different kind of wildness, where cactus-filled deserts give way to towering pine forests along a single winding road. These contrasts further deepened her appreciation for nature’s quiet transformations.

Today, Julie lives on an escarpment near Macaulay Mountain in Picton, Ontario, surrounded by beloved trees and ever-changing woodland paths. Her art is rooted in this intimate connection to the land—each piece reflecting the silence, spirit, and stories found in places where nature invites contemplation.

Julie has studied with a range of inspiring teachers across Canada, the United States, and Europe. She is actively involved in the regional arts community as a member of the Executive Committee of the Belleville Art Association, and as a member of the Prince Edward County Arts Council and the Quinte Arts Council.
